Do Google Reviews Really Matter?
Silly question really, it’s Google – of course they matter!
If you’ve got a Google My Business (GMB) page obtaining Google reviews is an excellent way to improve your visibility and get ahead of your competitors. What’s more it’s completely free! Here we take a look at why Google reviews count and why we recommend our clients optimise their GMB page.
Reviews don’t automatically spring to mind when you think about Search Engine Optimisation but they are important, especially if you are operating a local business. Obtaining reviews from your clients can raise your prominence within Google’s listings and increase your visibility.
Google likes to know what your customers think and whilst there are numerous factors that affect search rankings, reviews from your customers can only help get you in your quest to get into Google’s good books.
According to a consumer survey conducted by Bright Local in 2018, 86% of respondents read reviews for local businesses before viewing their websites or engaging with them. If you are operating a local business your potential customers are likely to search for your goods or services in conjunction with location. What better way to convince them that they should take a look at you, than with positive reviews from your past and present customers? A local search for a service not only serves up the business names and distance from your location but also a star rating based on reviews received.
Consider your own searches – if you’re out and about and looking for a local coffee shop, are you more likely to visit the coffee shop with 10 reviews and a 5* rating or the coffee shop that’s yet to be reviewed?
Build Customer Trust
The same survey by Bright Local also determined that 91% of 18-34 year olds trusted online reviews as much as a personal recommendation. What’s more with 68% of respondents more likely to use a local business having read a positive review it’s a no-brainer why they are worth achieving.
Girarkle recently carried out a customer follow-up exercise on behalf of one of our clients where one-hour’s marketing activity translated into seven five-star Google Reviews. In the following month we also observed an increased visibility on Google. With the processes now in place for our client to request reviews we look forward to them reaping the benefits of an increased prescence.
